We had an excellent time at our first comedy night FACELIFT at bar Kick on Monday. A really big thank you to everyone who came as participants and spectators.
I didn’t attend but humour does interest me. Why don’t you put up a youtube video?

“Q: Why do bananas have to wear suncream?
A: Because they peel.

Soldiers Returning Home: New York City, June 17, 1945. Cheering and waving from the deck of the transport which brought them back to the United States today, men of the 86th Infantry Division of the third Army stand on deck of their ship while women on the dock wave to them, awaiting their arrival.

Back from the war…
YES.
I’ve seen this picture a lot, and while I will admit a picture tells a thousand words, there’s a lot of assumption based on this image, without any background checks.
First glance, you see a white dude carrying two cats and a black dude carrying a bunch of stuff, not really sure what all the stuff is, because he’s not completely in focus. Both are standing nearly waist deep in flood waters, so in this case I think it’s safe to assume that this is happening in some place like Mississippi, after Katrina in New Orleans, or some other North American locale. Hell, it could even be Winnipeg when the rivers rise there and floods are known to happen in Manitoba. For the sake of argument, however, I believe this is New Orleans, after Katrina hit.
Further, yes it’s very cute that white dude has save two cats. And of course, black dude back there is stealing some shit. At least, that’s what everyone is going to assume. Don’t lie, you know you did. But in this case, while the picture does tell a lot, there’s also a lot unsaid.
White dude might have left his wife and kids just to save two fucking cats.
Black dude back there might be trying to save what possessions he can after his apartment/house got flooded.
White dude passed over four people in danger of drowning to save two cats.
Black dude could have an armload of water logged supplies that he’s trying to get to people that need them.
See what happened there? The reversal of negativity happened because when this photo was seen when it first came out, you just know everyone’s thoughts were “Awww, white dude bro is saving his pets, while the black guy is stealing some shit”. It was, and it can’t be denied.
While the photo is nice and it’s significant what people have to deal with when faced with disaster, there is no difference in the PRIORITIES of either individual. Both are attempting to deal with this situation as best they can. Hell, for all we know by looking at the picture, both dudes might have shipped in from Texas to help with disaster relief. But don’t just think one person’s priorities are higher placed than another person, especially when those two people are dealing with a natural disaster.
(note: I understand there is an actual news item that is attached to this photo, and I also know the story behind it, but I’ve seen this image going around the ‘Net without any context and that, quite frankly, can be bothersome)
My first thought when I saw it was this is a guy who loves his cats so much he left his possessions behind whereas the guy behind was more intersted in his belongings. I (wrongly?) read this as a slight on the guy who is pet-crazy-in-love. I mean, cats can swim guys. They might not like water, but they can swim.
